Leader, MF & BTR Development & Investments

Our client is a century old privately held real estate development company that specializes in creating award-winning master planned residential communities, second home and resort-style communities, fully planned rental communities, large tract investment properties, and commercial development projects, all found within the Southwestern United States

Position Description

The Leader will serve as the Chief Executive of the newly created multifamily (BTR) platform, responsible for setting strategic direction, driving disciplined growth, and ensuring operational excellence across acquisitions, development, construction, and asset management. This executive will steward the company’s culture, strengthen institutional and private capital relationships, and deliver consistent, risk adjusted returns across the portfolio. The role reports to the President of the organization and will lead a high-performance team across all functional areas of the business.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Platform Growth

  • Define and execute the long-term vision for the multifamily (BTR) business, including market expansion, capital strategy, and product positioning.
  • Lead annual and multiyear strategic planning, ensuring alignment with ownership and capital partners.
  • Identify emerging opportunities in target markets of AZ, TX, CO, NV and UT, and guide disciplined entry into new geographies.

Capital Markets & Investor Relations

  • Set acquisition strategies for priority submarkets, aligning company resources with capital partner interest and internal capacity.
  • Serve as the primary executive interface with institutional partners, family offices, and private capital sources.
  • Oversee capital formation for development and acquisition pipelines, including JV structuring, fund vehicles, and programmatic partnerships.
  • Maintain strong relationships with lenders, equity partners, and financial institutions to optimize capital stack efficiency.

Development & Acquisitions Oversight

  • Provide executive oversight of site selection, underwriting, acquisition, entitlement, design, and construction execution.
  • Ensure projects meet financial, schedule, and quality objectives.
  • Approve major investment decisions, including land acquisitions, project budgets, and business plans.

Operational Excellence

  • Build and lead a high performing team across development, construction, finance, and asset management.
  • Implement scalable systems, reporting frameworks, and governance structures to support growth.
  • Drive continuous improvement in cost control, risk management, and project delivery.

Portfolio & Asset Management

  • Oversee asset performance, including lease up strategy, operating metrics, capital planning, and disposition timing.
  • Ensure assets meet or exceed pro forma expectations and partner return thresholds.
  • Guide long term portfolio strategy, including hold/sell analysis and reinvestment planning.

Culture, Talent & Organizational Leadership

  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence.
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain top talent across all disciplines.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in single or multifamily development, investment, or real estate private equity.
  • Proven track record overseeing large scale development pipelines and delivering institutional grade assets.
  • Deep understanding of capital markets, JV structuring, and investor relations.
  • Strong financial acumen, including underwriting, portfolio strategy, and risk management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross functional teams and scale an organization.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship building skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred.
